Minister Han Changfu met with Chilean Agricultural Minister Carlos Furche Guajardo in Beijing on Sept.4, 2014. Both sides exchanged views on strengthening China-Chile agricultural cooperation.
At the meeting, Minister Han stated that both Chinese and Chilean governments attach great importance to the bilateral agricultural cooperation. With committed efforts from both sides, China–Chile cooperation has achieved tangible results.In particular, the China-Chile Demonstration Farms have become a token of bilateral friendly cooperation and a model of successful agricultural cooperation between China and Latin American countries.
To further bilateral cooperation, Minister Han also put forward the following suggestions:
Firstly, to further implement China-Chile agricultural cooperation plan and carry out joint projects in a pragmatic manner;
Secondly, to give full play of bilateral agricultural cooperation mechanisms and to create enabling conditions for practical cooperation;
Thirdly, to strengthen exchange and cooperation on agricultural S&T to upgrade innovation capability of both countries;
Fourthly, to enhance cooperative activities at Demonstration Farms so as to furtherpromote rapid agricultural development in both countries; and
Fifthly, to boost agricultural trade and investment to facilitate integrated development in agriculture.
In response, Furche stated that China and Chile enjoy remarkable achievements in agricultural cooperation. The progress in bilateral Demonstration Farms fully reflected the hardwork by both ministries.
Furche agreed with Minister Han on his suggestions for further cooperation, and hoped to intensify practical cooperation with China in agricultural policies,agricultural S&T, and agricultural trade and investment.
At the end of meeting, the two Ministers signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation on China-Chile Demonstration Farm 2014--2016 between the Ministry of Agriculture of the People's Republic of China and the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Chile.
MOA Chief Economist and Director-General of General Office Bi Meijia also attended the meeting.
